"From papillomavirus driven cancers to skin stem cells – a life of science over 40 years"

Synopsis
A/Prof Pritinder Kaur is a recently retired skin stem cell biologist who holds an adjunct position at the Curtin Medical School at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia. She received BSc Honours in Cell Biology from the University of London, UK and a PhD from the University of Manchester, UK (1985). She undertook postdoctoral training at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, USA (1985-1990), before moving to Australia as a Florey Fellow then, Associate Member at the Hanson Centre for Cancer Research, Adelaide (1990-1999). Pritinder has held Lab Head/Group Leader positions at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne (2000-2015); the Hudson Institute for Medical Research, Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne (2015-2016) and at Curtin University, since Jan 2016. Her research interests have been centered around understanding human skin cell replacement, wound healing and cancer. The overall aim of her research work has been to inform improved treatments for patients with severe skin loss such as burns patients or those with chronic skin wounds such as diabetic ulcers. She has served as a long-standing executive member of professional Societies including the Australasian Society of Dermatology Research and the Australasian Wound and Tissue Research; and is an Editorial Board member for the journals Stem Cells (since 2004), Stem Cell Reviews (since 2008); and Associate Editor (Australia) for Current Stem Cell Research and Therapy (since 2013).
